The main thing for power engineers now is to clear energy facilities, which will allow them to restore electricity and gas supply to the population faster.

Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said this during the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Energy and the American company Tetra Tech, Inc. on cooperation in mine action, according to a press release from the ministry.

The memorandum was signed by Deputy Minister Yaroslav Demchenkov and Tetra Tech, Inc. project manager Jeff Caldwell in the presence of Herman Halushchenko and Tetra Tech, Inc. vice president Steve Priestley.

According to preliminary estimates by fuel and energy companies, the area of energy infrastructure that needs to be surveyed for areas contaminated with mines and explosive remnants of war is more than 30,000 hectares in the government-controlled areas alone.

The most heavily mined areas are those of the energy infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. Facilities in Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kherson, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Zhytomyr regions also need demining.

"In view of this, we need our partners' assistance in demining," added Herman Halushchenko.

Jeff Caldwell, in turn, emphasized that the agreements will help improve energy security in Ukraine.

The memorandum was signed within the framework of the international conference Energy for the Recovery of Ukraine, which is taking place in Warsaw.

Tetra Tech, Inc. is expected to provide technical assistance and advisory support to the Ministry of Energy in the implementation of mine action measures.

The parties will also cooperate to safely restore Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure by clearing energy facilities, their sites and adjacent territories of explosive remnants of war and their components that pose a threat to human life and health, and ensuring proper safe operation of energy facilities.

Background. As a reminder, Herman Halushchenko said that in case of Russian attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure, Ukraine would retaliate.
