At his party's congress, Orban said he would resist the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU
He said that Ukraine is separated from the EU by "light years"

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking at the congress of his Fidesz party, said he would resist the initiatives of the EU institutions, including the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.

"Correcting this false promise to start negotiations will also be our task, as Ukraine is now separated from the EU by light years," the agency quoted Orban as saying.
Orban is constantly arguing with European institutions over issues such as authoritarian tendencies in Hungary. The European Union blocks the payment of funds allocated to Hungary from the union budget, and in response, Orban refuses to support certain areas of common foreign policy, which are often related to the war in Ukraine.
The issue of an official invitation to Ukraine for membership talks will be one of the topics of the December EU summit, but Hungary may resist it and thus delay the start of negotiations until the new year, a Reuters source in Brussels wrote on Friday.
