EU allocates another 200 million euros for training of Ukrainian military

The European Union announced on Tuesday an additional €200 million in aid for training Ukrainian soldiers, bringing the total budget for the mission to €255 million.

34,000 Ukrainian soldiers have already been trained under the initiative, European Diplomacy Chief Josep Borrell said after a meeting in Brussels with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

In total, the EU has already allocated 27 billion euros for military support to Ukraine, but we must "do more and faster," Borrell also said.

A €20 billion package over four years, which he had proposed earlier, is being blocked by some European countries, as is another €50 billion package to consolidate European support for Ukraine.

"We all have to continue to work seriously on mobilizing European capabilities to resist Russia's attempts to destroy Ukraine, to destroy Europe," Kuleba said.

Background. As a reminder, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed that the EU would not be able to provide Ukraine with 1 million shells by March. However, this prompted countries to place more orders and companies to invest in arms production.
