The US plans to persuade Russia to negotiate with Ukraine by the end of 2024

The United States intends to force Russia to negotiate with Ukraine on Kyiv's terms by the end of 2024.

Source. This was stated by First Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Affairs Jonathan Feiner, cited by Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, the conditions for negotiations should be based on the UN Charter on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Washington's goal is to force Moscow to choose: either to sit down at the negotiating table or "to deal with a stronger Ukraine that is backed by a stronger industrial base in the United States and Europe" and is capable of going on the offensive, said Feiner.

"This is a very difficult strategic choice. I don't know what the Russians will ultimately decide. But this is the dilemma we would like to create for them," he emphasized.

To achieve this goal, according to Mr. Feiner, the United States and the EU will increase arms production and help Ukraine do the same.

"We will be on a much stronger foundation in a year and a half than we are now," the Biden adviser concluded.

To start negotiations with Russia, Ukraine's leadership demands the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country and a return to the 1991 borders. Moscow rejects these demands and calls on Kyiv to recognize the "realities on the ground" that emerged during the war, namely Russia's annexation of four regions of Ukraine (Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk) and the Crimean peninsula.

In response to the annexation of the occupied territories, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a decree prohibiting him from negotiating with the Russian side as long as Russia is led by Vladimir Putin.
