President's Office announces large exchange of prisoners - more than 200 people

More than 200 Ukrainians are returning home from Russian captivity. This was announced by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.

"A large exchange of prisoners. We are returning home more than 200 of our people. Among them are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, sailors, civilians and a police officer. These are officers, sergeants and privates. The president's team is returning the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, Zmeinyi Island, and prisoners of war from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant," the head of the Presidential Administration wrote in his telegram channel.

He emphasized that this was a difficult exchange after a long pause. The last exchange of prisoners took place. It was back in August. This is the result of the team's great efforts, Yermak noted.

"The enemy held civilian teachers captive, as well as a policeman who stayed in Mariupol until the last moment, delivering humanitarian aid to people," he added.

"We continue our work. We have a clear task from Volodymyr Zelenskyy to return everyone. We are working," the head of the OP emphasized.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the information about the exchange of prisoners:

"230 of our people: 213 soldiers and sergeants, 11 officers, 6 civilians – have returned home today. I thank everyone who made this possible! We remember each and every one of them. And we have to bring everyone back," he wrote on social media.

According to media reports, 48 of the exchanged persons were classified as "missing". Next, they will undergo a medical examination, assistance in restoring documents and cards, and rehabilitation.
