Ukraine starts creating a separate type of troops - Unmanned Systems Forces
They should give "a concrete result" in the near future, Zelenskyy says
Unmanned Systems Forces may be created as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to a decree issued on Tuesday by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, with the involvement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is ordered to "work out the issue of creating the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate type of force within the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and, based on the results of the work, submit relevant proposals to the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine."
The Unmanned Systems Forces should produce a concrete result in the near future, Zelenskyy said in a video address on Tuesday.
"Drones – unmanned systems – have proven their effectiveness in battles on the ground, in the sky and at sea. Ukraine has really changed the situation in the Black Sea thanks to drones. Repelling assaults on the ground is largely the work of drones. The large-scale destruction of the occupiers and their equipment is also the work of drones," the President said.
"The list of tasks is now clear: special staff positions for working with drones, special units, effective training, systematisation of experience, constant scaling of production and attraction of the best ideas and the best specialists in this field. This is a task for the army, the Ministry of Defence and the government as a whole," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, "in order to provide the necessary coordination in the defence forces, ensure the proper level of planning and quality of logistics, the Unmanned Systems Forces will be created within the Armed Forces."
Background. Earlier, Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi said that drones would help prevent Ukraine from being drawn into a positional war in which it has no advantages.
