Uzhhorod will become the first regional centre to be connected to Europe by the European railway
Similar projects in Lviv and Chernivtsi are to be implemented with EU funds

Uzhhorod will soon become the first regional centre in Ukraine to be connected to Europe by the European railway.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
"Today, in Zakarpattia, we are launching a project to build the Chop-Uzhhorod European gauge railway. This will make it possible to launch a direct railway connection between Uzhhorod and Vienna, Bratislava, Kosice, Budapest, Prague, Bucharest, Dresden, and Belgrade," the Prime Minister said in a statement on his telegram channel.
The project will create a transport hub in Uzhhorod that will provide convenient and fast passenger transfers between wide-gauge trains and trains of EU countries.
It is noted that the construction of this European gauge will be financed by EU grants received by Ukrzaliznytsia under the Connecting Europe Facility programme.
"In the near future, we plan to implement similar projects in Lviv and Chernivtsi with EU funds," the Prime Minister added.
Background. As a reminder, Ukraine will propose to Europe to completely block air transit for Russia and Belarus, which will create logistical problems for Moscow, making it much more expensive and causing discomfort to Russians.
