Bakhmut defense is led by Army Commander Syrskyi - Ukrainian Armed Forces Command
Defense of the city relies on holding the village of Ivanivske

The Ukrainian military says that the situation in Bakhmut remains under control, with the city's defense being taken over by the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrsky.
The Ukrainian Army posted on Facebook that the colonel general "is constantly on the front line with his subordinate units. Together with their commanders, they are coordinating actions that will not allow the enemy to implement their plans."
"The enemy continues to try to break through our defenses around the city and is moving its best units there," the statement said.
The unofficial Telegram channel of the 46th separate airmobile brigade reported that the city's defense rests on the holding of the village of Ivanivske, a few kilometers to the west.
"The surrender of Ivanivske would sharply worsen the situation in the area of the (Bakhmut) Aeroplane [monument in the south of the city]," the message reads.
The loss of Ivanivske would also lead to "physical control of the road to Chasiv Yar," they claim, and "allow us to attack our rear and flank from the south."
The Telegram channel added: "Despite the increased artillery and air support for the Wagnerites, it is noticeable that the Russians have not had any success for several days."
"[Their] tactical achievements are minimal, despite the intensity of the fighting."
Major Maksym Zhorin, who is in charge of the Bakhmut district, said on Telegram late Tuesday that "Bakhmut has been under fire all day."
"As before, the biggest pressure is on residential areas. Our guys are fighting for every house, but it is very difficult to hold back so many occupants. The flanks are holding, no one is letting the Russians surround the city," he said.
Background. Recently, it was reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces pushed Russian troops back from a key road in Bakhmut.
