Source. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to a press release from the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
"Preschool No. 32 will be the first to be modernized and insulated in the city. The reconstruction started on April 3 and will last until December 2023. The total estimate is UAH 18 million. After the modernization is completed, the kindergarten will be able to save 61% of its current energy consumption. As a result, children will have more comfortable learning conditions, and the city will reduce utility bills," the press release explains.
According to the press release, work will begin on two more facilities this year. In total, a loan of EUR 30.5 million has been allocated for the thermal modernization of 36 municipal educational institutions.
The thermal modernization works are expected to help reduce CO2 emissions by 300 thousand kg annually, reduce gas consumption by 140 thousand cubic meters per year and extend the life of the buildings by 30 years.
The project in Ternopil is part of an existing EIB loan agreement, the Municipal Infrastructure Development Program for Ukraine.
This is a multi-sectoral investment program with a loan volume of EUR 400 million, implemented by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
As part of the program, 17 cities and utility companies across the country will modernize district heating, public lighting, water supply, sewerage and solid waste management systems, as well as improve the energy efficiency of public buildings.
Background. As a reminder, the selection of €100 million worth of thermal modernization projects for public buildings has started under the Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Ukraine program implemented by Ukraine and the EIB.
