Ukraine's Foreign Ministry responds to Orban's call for peace talks with russia "before a counteroffensive"
Orban calls himself the only prime minister in the EU who stands for peace

Peace talks are possible only after the complete withdrawal of russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said.
His statement came in response to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's call for a ceasefire between the two sides.
"A ceasefire without this condition will freeze the status quo, give russia the opportunity to regroup, accumulate forces and launch a new wave of aggression. Proven by the experience of 2014-2022," Oleh Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.
In a radio interview aired on Friday, Orban called for peace talks between Ukraine and russia before the Ukrainian counteroffensive begins.
"Before the Ukrainians launch a counterattack, we must do everything in our power to achieve a ceasefire and start peace talks," the Hungarian prime minister said. At the same time, he called himself the only prime minister in the EU who stands for peace and emphasized that it is difficult for him.
However, according to a representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, daily russian attacks on Ukrainian cities prove that moscow is not considering any other scenario but to continue the war.
"To alleviate this situation, we urge the head of the Hungarian government to take action. For example, to condemn russian aggression, to demand that moscow stop the war and return the russian army to the territory of russia, to join international measures to isolate russia, and not to undermine the unity of the EU," said Oleh Nikolenko.
Background. Earlier, Orban said that Hungary was negotiating gas purchases from Qatar to reduce its dependence on russia.
