U.S., allies meet secretly in Saudi Arabia on Ukraine peace plan - Bloomberg
Next meeting on peace to be held in Switzerland at Davos Forum next week

On December 16, 2023, a secret meeting was held in Riyadh between representatives of Ukraine, the G7 and some countries of the Global South to discuss Kyiv's peace plan after the war.
Source. Bloomberg writes about this with reference to its own sources.
The main task of the meeting was to develop countermeasures against Russian propaganda, which tries to divide the allies and present them as a party that allegedly does not want peace talks.
The meeting was not publicized in order to make some of its participants more comfortable discussing the issues raised at it. In addition, the negotiators consulted on how to build relations with Russia in the future.
Blomberg's sources, however, note that no significant progress was made at the meeting. Ukraine and its G7 allies continued to reject calls from the Global South for direct talks with Russia. The meeting was attended by representatives of India, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, while China, Brazil, and the UAE, which had attended previous public peace summits, did not participate in the December gathering.
Kyiv and its allies insist that peace is possible only if Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected and Russian troops are withdrawn, and they emphasized that Vladimir Putin's goals have not changed recently and that he has violated previous agreements.
Representatives of the EU and the US confirmed that they will continue to support Ukraine in the war.
The next meeting on peace is to be held in Switzerland at the Davos Forum next week.
A source close to the Kremlin told Bloomberg that at the end of last year, the Russian authorities were "contacted to test the waters for a ceasefire agreement," but did not go into details.
Background. Earlier, the State Department said that Putin would not hold peace talks on Ukraine before the US presidential election.
